Flash Player Security Update April 2008 may impact lots of Flash movies

posted: Friday, April 25, 2008

Today I found the time to dig a little bit deeper into the recent Flash Player Security Update, which was posted on April 8th, 2008, by Adobe. Right when I read this Adobe article I was feeling that this could involve work on "developer's side" and right: I had Flash movies, still written in AS 2.0, but which makes no difference, that are calling web services, and right after I tested these Flashs with the Flash Player release 9,0,124,0 they stopped working (=means they could not connect to the web service anymore). As long as you are running such movies in Flash Player up to version 9,0,115,0 you are fine but users will install the new version one after the other.
In my case I just had to adapt my policy files which was done quickly - ... reading all the information about the security update and what it might impact took probably the most time but is definetly worth it if you really want to understand how and why everything works.
So, some action might be required, and depending on your Flash movie and what you are doing there you should start reading following Adobe article: Understanding Flash Player 9 April 2008 Security Update compatibility
That article leads to further information.
Best regards
Cheers, Frank
