ASPDNSF and PayPal Pro, ... Wrap-up Pro's and Con's

AspDotNetStorefront

Our client's eCommerce website based on the software AspDotNetStorefront is nearly ready to go. We implemented PayPal Pro as the real-time payment gateway and had the same good experience with PayPal Pro as we had in a former project with PayPal Standard IPN.
PayPal's sandbox environment is easy to establish and testing is straight-forward.
AspDotNetStorefront's built-in support for PayPal Pro was easy to utilize, however, the AspDotNetStorefront documentation seemed to be out-dated a bit.

Pro's / Con's: The eCommerce software AspDotNetStorefront has lots of features and it is easy to use and install. The store layout can be modified by adapting skin and css files which is straight-forward stuff if you know .NET, CSS, and Html. However, support and documentaion do lack examples of how to customize data access and display of data records: support's response is too often that it can be done but a developer will miss code snippets and examples how to do it. Especially because some internal functions are not documented and if it comes to modifications you quickly reach a point where you need such information. From our standpoint it would be great for all clients if support would maintain an example library.

Support told us that the documentation is currently in the process of being updated.

Customization of code: the more you customize code-wise the more a version upgrade will be a nightmare! Upgrades come as a full software version and you basically override your old files. If you do not know exactly what you had customized you will end-up with an undefined state of your website. To merge the new version with your customizations is really not fun! As long as you stay with customizing layout and some packages that you can easily track then you are fine.
Best regards
Cheers, Frank
